Stopping power of a 9mm Parabellum?

So, there’s this controversy on everyone saying 9mm’s lack the power to take someone down. So say there’s a normal person with a Beretta 92FS with 9mm’s in it, and a ripped mugger walking slowly towards, how many shots would it take to bring down a big guy? Would a 9mm to a head be instant-kill? How many rounds to the chest would it take? Can a 9mm generally bring someone down quickly, if not hitting vitals?

Most of the world’s armies are carrying 9mm’s. It is a really potent round, regardless of what others are saying. It has about the same power as the .40 S&W, or even the Holy Grail of oldtimers, the.45 ACP. They all have roughly 350 to 450 ft lbs of energy. The .45 has a heavier bullet that many equate with “stopping power”. It is always a big debate — but most will agree that getting hit in the vitals with the 9mm, .40, or .45 will kill an attacker with about the same amount of effectiveness. They all have about 400 ft. lbs of energy, plus or minus.
Yes — a head shot would likely be fatal. One or two shots in the chest would likely be fatal as well. Although somewhat debateable — a “ripped mugger” would likely be “taken down” just as quickly whether hit with a 9mm, .40, or .45. The “ripped mugger” only think they are immortal — Superman, and Spiderman are just comic book characters.
BTW — in reference to a “ripped mugger” — Tupac Shakir was killed in Las Vegas by a 9mm bullet to the lung, and “Biggie Smalls” was also killed by a 9mm bullet.
