Broadhead Choice Question?
i shoot a bowtech carnivore 50 lbs 265 fps and i need new broadheads, i shot my last few deer with crimson talons… theu did the job, but the 5 deer i shot went 70+ yards every time… with little spots of blood (keep in mind these were all double lung shots) i want a broadhead that will break bone with my slower bow speed, and one with good blood trails, ive been thinking rage two blades please let me know if u think they will work, if not feel free to give any oppinion in advance, thanks!!
A mechanical broad head such as the rage that has a large cutting diameter simply will lack penetration power when shot out of a low poundage bow. Call any pro shop you wish to and they will tell you the same thing I am telling you. Almost all of them will not recommend any bow that does not have at least a sixty lb draw weight for the large cut mechanicals.
But almost every deer, even on a double lung shot will run from 50 to 100 yards when shot with a bow. But if you want a broad head that will break bones and leave a good blood trail for tracking, I would go with a Slick Trick, a Nap Thunderhead or a Muzzy.
But tell me, did the Talons have an exit hole? If they did, the blood trail should have been fantastic. You want a broad head that will penetrate well so that there will be an exit hole. That is were you get a good blood trail.
