Browning Buckmark, ruger mark iii or beretta u22 neos?

I’m looking for a .22 pistol, this would be my first pistol, i have gotten it down to these 3 I’ve held the beretta and the ruger, like both of them, the neos has a better feel but I could get better grips for the ruger, and the buckmark sounds like a really great gun.

One other this, should I go with something bigger? Like a 9mm, or like a .45?
My brother said I should, so if I wanted a gun for self defense.

I already have a .22 rifle and a shotgun
I don’t need a a centerfire cause I bow hunt.

I aquired a Buck Mark about 15 yrs ago. It is extremely accurate with a great trigger. It is also easy to take down and clean (you need one small allen wrench which comes with the pistol). The only part I have had to replace is a small plastic internal buffer. It is easily replaced as it is a part you remove for cleaning. A replacement was purchased with a call to Browning and I ordered 2 or 3 of them. That should last me the rest of my life. I wish all replacement parts were as easy and cheap to get. While I was at it I purchased a set of rubber grips saving the nice rosewoods that came on it.

Rugers are good pistols as well although I understand they are a real pain to take apart and clean.

No experience with the Beretta.

Whatever you get I have one suggestion. Don’t go out and buy a brick of 500 rds of one type of ammo. Buy a 50-rd box or 2 of several types of ammo. Then figure out which type your pistol likes best. With one brand and load your pistol my run like a swiss watch. With another it make run like sh*t. Always jamming, failing to fire, etc.
