Reflector type telescope?
Are images supposed to be upside down in these types of scopes and if not how do I correct this.
Bought this model used(Bushnell, 78-8831 76mm reflector)all parts and manual included. Been interested in sky watching for yrs. Thought I would start. Any books, websites, etc. would be most helpful, too?
It is normal to see the images upside down. Because a reflector uses mirrors instead of lenses you get a reflected image. The light bounces off of the first mirror and onto the secondary mirror where it is reflected out to your eye. All this bouncing around is what turns the image upside down.
Visit ccssc.org and click on the mead observatory link at the top. On the next page, in the middle is another link to the blog with Dr. Williams who is in charge here at the mead observatory. It is an ongoing blog all about astronomy and such.
Also, skymaps.com will let you print out a monthly star map to help with viewing.
And heavens-above.com will let you put in your location and will tell you what kind of satellites are passing through your sky as well as the time (this includes Hubble and the ISS)
Enjoy!
