i got a couple questions on coyote hunting.?

I own some land in gomer ohio on pike run right next to sandy point beach and i want to hunt coyotes back there and there is woods all around it and i was thinkin if wen i get a deer or whatever if i hung it from a tree over there like the over kill would the coyotes come in fer it and keep em around. people hunt coyotes back there with dogs sometimes but idk if they get anything. i no hunting coyotes will be a long shot but could a 17 hmr take down a coyote at 100 or 200 yards ive herd 243 but isn’t that a little big for a fox. and could u tell me whatever else u no about hunting coyotes and callin and decoys
what would u guys recomend if i was going to take an ocasional forx would a 22 – 250 be to big or a 223

The pile of offal after you gut a deer is plenty to keep coyotes interested, if you leave the lungs, kidneys, and liver in it. The dying rabbit call works fine, but you need a blind.

To use on pelted game, the 243 doesn’t need to be loaded to full power if you handload. Try 30 grains of IMR-4064 and any big deer bullet 95 to 105 grains, for about 2500 fps. COL of 2.630″. At the lower velocity, there won’t be much expansion, or velocity-related wound channel.

But if you are a tourist-type choosing ONLY from what is on some shelf somewhere, the 223 with fmj ammo works fine on pelted game.
