Will a deer be able to easily spot a ladder tree stand?
hi, i was wondering if a deer would be able to easily spot a ladder tress stand.. if u hunt with one, have u been successful with it?? is it safe?? or should i go with a blind. thanks! merry christmas!
The ladder stand is more then likely one of the most successful stands you can hunt out of. The deer pay no attention to an object that doesn’t smell and doesn’t move.
But let a deer see you in one and get away, the next time the deer travels in that area he will stay in the cover and see if you are there. If you are, he will slip away and you will never know he was any where near you.
To illustrate my point, a friend was on a lease in Mississippi and there was a food plot that had a ladder stand on it. After a couple of deer were killed off it, the deer no longer came to the plot. Since there were always fresh tracks in the plot everyone figured they were doing it at night. So my friend used a climbing stand and climbed a tree that had a cedar tree growing in front of it.He got as high as the cedar tree was and used it for cover. 30 minutes before dark the plot filled up with deer. Over 20 deer came into it. My friend said from where he now was he could see a large doe come up to the edge of the cover and look straight at the ladder stand for almost 5 minutes. Then she went into the food plot. After she did that the other deer piled into it also.
So the moral of this story is that if your ladder stand stops producing, move it from it’s present location and hide it a little better and try again.
