Dermestid Beetle
How do I raise dermestid beetles?

I go hunting and sometimes bing home some nice coyote skulls and deer skulls, and Im going to order a colony of dermestid beetles. What do they require to keep them alive? What temperatures? Whats the best thing to feed them and how often? What should I put in their tank for burrowing and stuff? What about water? Is there anything else I’m forgetting to ask info about?

I really need as much help as I can with this. I live in San Diego, if that helps at all (temperature out here for them). I also have a reptile heat lamp with that dial on it that turns the power of the light higher and lower (can’t remember what it’s called).
Hey eddie. That link didn’t work. when you pasted it, it didn’t past the whole link.

room temperature should be good, himidity doesn’t make much of a difference unless it hits 100%, then anything has a hard time to live.
the reptile lamp will work too, just keep it warm enough that you can keep your hand at the top of the tank with no discomfort. like the sun. every day look if the meat is gone, if it is, wait a day and throw in any chunk of meat, like if you would keep some coyote meat leftover from the kill and freeze it, defrost it for a couple days and feed them with that, a coyote should last a long time. use sand for burrowing material and a tiny dish of water, they’ll eventually find it. actually, cover the bottom of the tank with point up egg cartons over the sand, so they have shelter if they feel too hot.

The natural history museum is a place where the line between “high” and “low” culture effectively vanishes–where our awe of nature, our taste for the bizarre, and our thirst for knowledge all blend happily together.
