What should my one year olds diet consist of?
My daughter recently turned one and i’m not sure as to what she should be eating. I’m still giving her formula but i know at this age it shouldn’t be her primary source of nutrition. She eats the gerber graduates yogurt melts, freeze dried fruit, and sometimes the little puffs. I’m still buying baby food but she never finishes a jar and i seem to be throwing away more than she eats. Is it normal for her to not be able eat an entire jar of the 3rd foods? She doesn’t care for juice so water and formula are the main drinks. She eats the microwave singles from hamburger helper, and easy mac. I don’t think she gets enough dairy, veggies, or protein. Any suggestions???
i don’t mean to sound rude, but you’re asking for advice, so here goes. there’s no reason she should still be having formula or baby food. baby food does not supply enough calories to support her growth. the rest of her diet sounds kind of junky. there is soo much sodium in hamburger helper and there is no nutritional value in mac n cheese. of course it’s fine once in a while, but it shouldn’t be a daily thing. take a look at this chart. http://www.babyzone.com/baby/nutrition-chart.pdf. it should give you a good idea of what your daughter needs. try fresh fruits, full-fat yogurt, lean meats–pork, turkey, chicken, beef. fresh or frozen veggies are great too. real cheese like cheddar, not the processed cheese food, is great for growing toddlers. limit sugar–good that she doesn’t like juice. she doesn’t need it. water for a drink throughout the day is fine, actually its preferred. this will take a little planning on your part, but once you get it down, it will become second nature. your 1-yr-old can eat pretty much what you eat–as long as it’s healthy. if you’re having unhealthy food, keep 100% natural chicken nuggets on hand and BAKE them–frying is no good. pop some veggies into the microwave and offer some yogurt and cottage cheese and a slice of toasted whole wheat bread. it’s easy! good luck!
