if you google camo cake its the one with the dear heads on top of them…I would prefer not to use fondant…the leaves would be okay i guess.
I guess what I’m asking is how do I get the veins and colors to look right using buttercream…do we have to use an airbrush? Do I make various colors and go wild and then do veins…I don’t know..this is my first cake like this and now I’m getting worried
The best way to do camo design in buttercream icing is to use an airbrush. Make the lines in the icing first…then just free hand the colors on. For that bottom tier I would just pull a spatula through the icing to get the bark effect…then air brush it.
You could make the leaves out of marzipan. The color of marzipan makes it great for fall colors. I love the taste of it myself and it would be fun to pick the leaves off and eat them. The leaves can be made from buttercream also but will not have quite the look of the fondant leaves.
I have a pic of a cake I did with a tree stump and some fall leaves and I made it all using buttercream. For the leaves I used a tip # 104. I then airbrushed added color on them.
