How long does it take for a BB to leave the Chamber and Barrel after the trigger is pulled?
I’m doing a science project on how an airsoft pistol works. I need to figure out the acceleration of the BB from when it is at rest in the chamber till when it exits the barrel.The gun is a Pietro Beretta 92FS. According to the packaging, the speed of the BB as it exits the barrel (assuming that a 0.12 gram BB is being used) is 307 fps. I need how long it takes for the BB to travel through the barrel, since Acceleration=Final Speed-Initial Speed/time. Thanks to anyone who knows the answer.
Your formula works well for average acceleration, however you will not be able to compute time without understanding the actual acceleration function.
Consider that Acceleration = Force/Mass.
The information that I don’t have (and I am not going to research this gun to find out) is how long the force of the compressed air is actually working on the BB. The force is going to decrease as the BB travels down the barrel, therefore acceleration will not be constant.
