red fox eat cats
Is a red fox dangerous?

I have a red fox in my neighbor’s backyard, that yelps all night and has tried, numerous times, chasing cats. She has 8 babies. My cats are outdoor/indoor, and pretty much fast and smart. But I don’t know if I should be protecting my cats every night and trying to get it to go away. I don’t want the babies growing up thinking they can just eat our cats. Thanks so much in advance. ;)
Thanks guys. I can’t find my most elusive cat, Nala, but I’m pretty sure she’s hiding somewhere from the fox.
The fox is so darn loud! It’s like screaming. =/

The fox is probably chasing YOUR cats away from HER babies. Foxes and cats are comparable in size and fierceness so I doubt the fox is ‘hunting’ your cats. If she were, one of your cats would be dead already. Foxes hunt mostly mice. Your cats are outdoor cats and know how to survive against a small animal like a fox, and probably fair okay around big dangerous animals like dogs and coyotes.

If you trap and release the fox the babies will die. Even if youcalled animal control about the babies they would just euthanize them, unless the rare chance that they had the opportunity to care for them until they are big enough. Then they probably won’t survive in the wild, having becomed accustomed to people and not knowing how to hunt. So I think usually they just put them to sleep. Instead you should enjoy the fact that you live somewhere so close to nature! I think it’s amazing that you have the opportunity to be so close to wildlife.

Don’t worry, your cats are safe, let nature take its course and don’t get too involved =)
