Is a memory foam mattress right for me?

Ive had a sore and tense back and neck for years. I also wake up several times a night and have numbness in my hands and arms. I guess this is due to a bad mattress. I have just realized that my bed, which is very old, sags in the middle and offers no support. Someone told me I need a new mattress fast. I was looking into the SImmons nxg 400 mattresses which is a hybrid of spring and foam. Any recommendations on which type of bed should I buy?

Hi, Andy, sounds like you’ve had this problem for a while, huh?

A sagging mattress is a back killer.

Putting memory foam over springs isn’t a good idea at all.

Memory foam is designed to be placed over a flat, hard surface.

The top layers of memory foam are meant to be placed onto firmer layers of base foam in order to give proper support.

Everyone is trying to come up with innovative ideas to get people’s attention.

Unfortunately, memory foam just doesn’t mix well with springs, water or air.

The only thing I’ve seen work well with memory foam is latex and even then, it’s questionable whether or not it’s necessary.

But adding a layer of latex is at least more in keeping with the qualities of memory foam.

Be sure that the mattress you buy is set onto a flat hard surface such as a foundation, platform bed, 3/4″ plywood, bunky boards, a waterbed frame or something similar to these.

Sticking with the tried and true memory foam mattresses will make you a very happy camper!

Best wishes.
