What types of foods should a 9 month old baby eat?
My son is 9 months old. He eats 8 ounces of formula every 3.5-4 hours, and he is eating stage 2 gerber baby food. He has just the bottom 2 front teeth and it looks like the top two are close to coming out but nothing yet. I was told by our Ped. that he should not start purreed foods until he has 4 teeth. But I am reading all of these comments that people are feeding there 9 months old baby’s cheerio’s, bananna’s ect. I just wanted to know is it safe for me to feed my son table food, or should I wait until he gets more teeth? Thank you for your answers.
My son will also eat the gerber puffs, he too seems to choke or gag at anything else though.
Honestly, the Gerber stage two’s like applesauce, pears, banana’s all seem to be of the same consistancy as the stage one’s…there are a few like the banana pudding that may be a little thicker, but I haven’t noticed “chunks” in any of the stage 2′s…we haven’t tried stage 3 yet.
Does your child make chewing motions when eating? If so, then he is probably ready for something more challenging. Can the food be gummed or tongued to a point where it can be swallowed? If so, then give it a try. Every child is unique. My three kids were all eating bananas, pastas, cooked soft vegetables , and soft canned fruits by that age. No meat though.
She has her own way of saying I’m hungry!
